The Parks – For Youngster and Older Kids
Though they may object to going at first, Magic Kingdom has plenty of activities for older kids, teens and husbands alike:
Pirates of the Caribbean (Adventureland)
What a blast (literally!) – ride in a boat and be attacked by pirates – cannonballs and all! The ride itself and the caverns leading to it are very dark and humid due to the “mist” effects – not recommended for people who are claustrophobic.
Splash Mountain (Frontierland)
One of my very favorites! You ride on a boat through Brer Rabbit’s world as depicted in Disney’s classic film “Song of the South”. The finale is a steep drop into the “briar patch”! Very thrilling, but can be scary for younger children – it’s pitch dark in some spots, and not all kids like the plunge at the end. However, my 4-year old daughter liked it a lot (though she got a little shaky in the dark areas).
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Frontierland)
Great little rollercoaster with an interesting mountain landscape. Good turns and drops and sure to please kids and adults.
Tomorrowland Indy Speedway (Tomorrowland)
Older kids, like the little ones, will like this ride – though teens may not be as impressed. It’s fun for kids 52 inches and over to drive the racecar themselves – but teens may be disappointed that the cars don’t go as super-fast as they might like.
Space Mountain (Tomorrowland)
A Disney classic and a must when going to the park. Indoor rollercoaster with a space theme of course. If clustrophobic or afraid of the dark, please do not go. One of my husband’s favorite rides.
Astro Orbiter (Tomorrowland)
This is pretty much like the Dumbo ride, but in a spaceship – with the added feature of being VERY high up off the ground! You take an elevator to the top of the building to get to this ride. Definitely not recommended for those afraid of heights – but gives you a spectacular view of the entire Park.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (Tomorrowland)
Older kids will also enjoy “blasting space aliens” – a very cool interactive ride featuring Buzz from Toy Story.
Mickey’s PhilharMagic (Fantasyland)
Spectacular, one of my favorites. Even older kids and teens will love this 3-D adventure. Great for the whole family.
